PNWC's Government Contracting Update 1

PNWC’s Government Contracting Update

The six business systems include: accounting, estimating, purchasing, EVMS (gained value management) MMAS (materials management and accounting), and Government property management. 25.7 million through February 2014 (or five percent of obligations) to Pratt & Whitney for the plane engines, it is building the F-35 (Joint Strike Fighter) program since it failed to meet up with the requirements for a sufficient EVMS system.

This money, which will be held back by DCMA (Defense Contract Management Agency) until Pratt and Whitney fixes their internal business system used to track cost and routine performance. Pratt and Whitney reported that it had received authorization from DCMA on 95 percent of its corrective action plans and expects to get approval for all those corrective action programs “soon”. At that time, presumably, DCMA will release the Pratt and withhold and Whitney are certain to get its money back. We don’t know the extent to that your Government is withholding funds for inadequate business systems.

As considerably as we know, these details are not made open public. Its only at Congressional hearings like this one, where we get a peak at how the system is working. Twenty-five million is a complete lot of money, no matter how deep a company’s storage compartments are. A company relying on obligations because of its working capital will need to find other resources for this capital when the federal government withholds funds. Those other sources will cost the business money.

Another approach that we’re tests is cohorting students. Quite a few students come to us and can feel a sense of isolation, those studying online particularly. They are not entirely convinced that they belong in the university environment to begin with because they’ve been away for so long. It could be demoralizing, and we lose those students sometimes. So coloring would make sure they have a community of students they can rely on as they face they inevitable challenges, who can be peer support.

Another thing we’re looking at is creating more organized pathways for that first year. Were you viewing a rising number of students falling out in their second yr? Was a problem with attrition or graduation rates there? That is common for just about any institution serving a working adult who’s getting into the classroom after time away. Community schools face the same problem. So yeah, on to the second year the task is how are we going to provide students to continue from the first. One of the things that we know from a lot of data analysis is that once a student can successfully get past that first year, their likelihood of completing increase exponentially.

Any of the areas where you are feeling there is certainly room for improvement? It’s essentially a corporate and business skills development entity that works together with large employers centered on discreet assignments within the business. If we’re at company X and we’re heading to study the international sales force, we want to understand the mindsets that drive the variance between the best sales people in that company and everyone else.
